Use Photos to Help with Work-Life Balance

It is a fantastic idea to use photos to help with work-life balance. It is a good idea to put home photos up at work. It is also a good idea to put up photos from work at home.

It is fantastic to achieve a work-life balance home and work with photographs on your desk at work.

When you travel across America one thing will be common in work areas from the lowliest to the most exalted. That thing is that there will be personal photos in the work area. In some places, you will see cute pets, crazy pets, sleepy pets, pets in crazy costumes, a lot of pets. Other work areas will have the cute kids doing all kinds of cute kid things. As a mother, I really enjoy seeing the pictures of the kids all dressed up and being cute. I have seen wedding photos, vacation photos, kids drawing photos. There are even photos of entire families at Christmas, on vacation, and in the backyard playing games.
For most people, the reason for the personal photos is to bring a little bit of home to the workplace. It gives reason for the work. You go to work in order to provide for your family, to be a better you for your family, or for a myriad of things. Most people think of work as important, but not their “real” life. As a result, people like to have a symbol of their “real” lives and thus outcome the photos.
Most people don’t think about it, but it might be a good idea to have photographs from work at home. This is a good idea for several reasons including:
  • children are very interested in where their parents spend their time away from home
  • seeing work photos while at home, will help you appreciate that work helps make the home possible
  • work photos will serve as a reminder that work is a part of life
When my husband was traveling to work in New Orleans, he would put his office on Skype.The children loved it because they could see their father at work. They got to know his office, his desk, his work area. When he moved locations in the office, they recognized that fact and would talk about why he moved to the new area. The workplace became a place they recognized and were comfortable with instead of just a place that took their father away from them.

It is an important part of the home and work balance to recognize that each side of you exists and is important. The two places have a symbiotic relationship. We go to work so we can make our home lives better. We go home to enjoy the things that work makes it possible to provide. The next time you go to work, consider taking a photo of your co-workers or work area to share on an end table at home.   1. hmmm I do not have either …photos of home at work or photos of work at home 🙁 I do have a picture that my niece drew that last time she was at my job. …that is as far as I’ve gotten…My desk area is such a mess!
