It is wonderful to realize that the job interview provides a chance to dress up and get out of the house.
There comes a time in the life of most people when they must go out and search for a job. It is common to all who work from the 9 to 5 office worker to the chief executive officer if a major company to the WAHM (work at home mother). It is a social custom here in the United States that one dresses up in one’s better clothing when going on a job interview. Often people who are between jobs spend the day in pajamas or super comfy casual clothes. This type of clothing tends to make one feel relaxed and less than serious. In contrast, interview clothes make us feel successful, accomplished and serious. In addition, the interview is a chance to interact with adults, which is a welcome treat if you are used to going to work each day and have been home alone for a while.
When preparing for job interviews, be sure to put your best foot forward. If you are out of work and do not know how long you will be out of work, this is a time to be budget aware. If you have a good suit at home or a good simple dress make that your interview outfit. It may not be necessary to shop for a new wardrobe. Even if you are in the unfortunate position of having to wear the same suit to each interview, wear it, hold your head up and smile. Make sure your interview outfit is neat, clean and smells nice. Be sure your shoes are clean and appropriate for the season and the suit or dress you are wearing.
Confidence and self-assuredness are good qualities, remember to put these on when you put on the other clothes you are wearing. If you look at the interview as an opportunity to meet a new person and gain new experiences and create new memories, you will see it as something to look forward to happening. All along the way to the job interview, there are opportunities for interaction and happiness. When you leave the house all dressed up and ready to go, smile at your neighbors. You look good, don’t be surprised if a neighbor tells you how good you look.
If you are driving along, instead of looking for opportunities to get upset with the drivers around you, look for opportunities to smile or wave at the people on the road with you. If you are taking public transit to the interview, be sure to speak nicely to the driver or conductor when getting on and off the transportation. On public transit, you can also get out of your shell and start a fun conversation with one or more of your fellow commuters. Even in the lobby while waiting for the interviewer to call you back, make conversation with the people in the lobby. You may end up working with one of them and it would be nice to start off in a happy way.
In conclusion, it is wonderful to realize that the job interview provides a chance to dress up and get out of the house. So, the question for you this wonderful day is, what does searching for a job make you thankful for?
