Do You Know the Best Time to Read

One of the best things about reading is that the best time to read is whenever you can. There is no one magic moment. So grab your favorite book, graphic novel, magazine, or blog article and read away. But, only do it when you feel like it!

In my opinion, the best time to read is all day every day and twice on Sunday. In 2012 the Pew Institute participated in a study to determine how many books the average American reads in a year. E-readers read approximately 24 books per year and traditional book readers read approximately 15 books per year. In a good year, I read about 50 books per year. In a great year, I read 75 books per year. All that reading takes time. If you are a working mom like me, with a husband, 4 kids, and two cats, life is busy. It is sometimes hard to find time to read. It reminds me of the expression – “get it in where you can fit in.”

There are thousands of different reasons why a person should read. Some of them include:

* pleasure
* self-improvement
* education
* advance on work
* keep up with current events
* to spend quality time with children

It doesn’t matter why you choose to read. The important thing is that you should read, early and often because it is good for you. The best time to read depends upon your schedule. If you can function in the early morning, get up a little earlier each day and spend 20 to thirty minutes immersed in the book of your choice. If you are a night owl, get a night light and read a little before going to bed each day. If neither of those options works for you, spend part of your lunch hour taking a look in a book.

The important thing is not when you read, the important thing is that you do read. Take time today to look at your schedule. Actually look at your calendar and set aside time specifically for reading. Try it for 30 day period. Take time once a day for 30 days to read. It doesn’t matter what you read, just set aside the time to read. At the end of 30 days, two things may happen. The first is that you may develop a habit of reading that sticks with you for the rest of your life. The second is that you may learn a few things, had a few laughs, and get a few good stories to share with friends and family.
