Mohawk “License to Spill” with SmartStrand Stain Resistant Carpet

I am a member of the Collective Bias® Social Fabric® Community. This shop has been compensated as part of a social shopper insights study for Collective Bias and their client.

It is terrific to go to work, have fun and learn some really great stuff that will help you in your real life. I recently had the opportunity to attend the Mohawk “License to Spill” event that occurred during the Italian Festival at the historic Italian Market in Philadelphia. The event was created to introduce the public to Mohawk’s SmartStrand stain resistant carpet, to tell the public about some good carpet cleaning tips. Mohawk sees itself as more than a provider of carpeting but a provider of a quality carpet product.

As you see from the disclosure at the top of this article, I am a member of the Collective Bias® Social Fabric® Community and as a result, I get to go to a lot of places and try some really awesome products. The Mohawk “License to Spill” event was great for me for several reasons:

  • I am currently making plans to redecorate my sanctuary/office space (also known as my enclosed front porch)
  • I have fond memories of the Italian Market in Philadelphia and have not been there for many years
  • I need new carpeting throughout my house

I was excited about getting to the event so I arrived at 9:15 am instead of the event start time of 10:00!  This was great because it meant I had time to walk around, check out the festival, watch the Mohawk crew set up and take some great photos.

How cute is this truck that the Mohawk people brought to the event! Just seeing this I knew it was going to be a fun day.

The entire Mohawk crew was really friendly. The first person I met was Elise Demboski who introduced herself to me right off and told me how much the Mohawk crew loved bloggers. So of course, I liked her right away. I also met Rachel who ran around the whole day helping me get photos, speak with other bloggers and even floor industry Floor Covering Weekly’s Mallory Cruise.  One of the great things about being a member of the Collective Bias® Social Fabric® Community is that there are a lot of great bloggers in the community. Here is a great shot of fellow bloggers Rachee Fagg and Heather Wray and I with Chip Wade.

When I was told about the “License to Spill” event and what was supposed to be incredible carpeting, I wanted to see for myself if it stood up to all the hype. My honest answer is, “Yes!”  I have a husband, four children a cat and a dog so easy to clean carpets are a big priority item for me.  I had a chance to talk with Seth Arnold in detail about Mohawk SmartStrand Carpeting. He was incredibly proud of the company and its product. I mean he was little kid over candy happy to talk about it. The SmartStand carpet has a permanent stain and soil resistance that will never wear off. This is different from most carpets which have stain and oil treatments added to the fiber that wears off over time due to foot traffic, wear and tear and cleaning treatments.  That means regular carpets will look work out and dirty sooner than expected which is disappointing for such a major purchase.  With the SmartStand carpeting, this is not an issue. As long as you own the carpet, you will have the stain protection because it is built into the fabric itself.

Since I arrived at the event so early, Seth Arnold let me be the first person to dirty up a carpet sample. In the following photo, you can see what the carpet looked like after I covered it with soy sauce and red wine.

Next,  Seth took a bottle of water, poured it over the stained carpet and the stains just disappeared! It was like on a television commercial.  Check out the photo.

When Seth told me how easy SmartStrand is to clean. I was skeptical. I mean, they say you can say goodbye to carpet cleaners. You no longer need harsh chemicals or carpet cleaners. According to Mohawk, you can clean the carpet with a  dish rag, warm water and a mild detergent or dish soap. If this was true, it would be great for me because Darren hates the smell of most cleaning chemicals. I also would like to have a healthier more chemical free home. Mohawk says that even tough stains that happen in real houses like mine such as ketchup, Kool-Aid or even red wine will clean easily. This carpet has been rated #1 in consumer satisfaction.

Another thing Mohawk is particularly proud of is the fact that the thread count for the SmartStand carpet thread is 700!  This means that for each stand of yarn you see in a piece of the carpet, there are actually 700 threads.

Another reason the event was really great was that I had an opportunity to meet with HGTV’s Chip Wade. He was very friendly and fun. I had a chance to pose for a photo with him!

The day was really nice because I got to see the filming of an HGTV segment featuring Chef Peter McAndrews of Paesanos, a local restaurant. He made this dish with hot dogs, onions, peppers and provolone cheese that smelled incredible. He was funny because when asked what was the secret to his food, he said, “I put the love in your mouth.” I am not going to touch all the potential double entrendres there, but will say that he has been featured on “Throw Down” with Bobby Flay as well as “Layover” with Anthony Bourdain.

There was also an incredible sample of baked goods including some wonderful cannoli from gus of Isgro Pasticceria.

In the end, it was terrific to get out of the house on a Saturday afternoon to take in the Italian Festival at the Italian Market, learn about Mohawk SmartStrand carpet  at the “License to Spill Event” and to see some great bloggers in real life. So, the question for you this terrific day is what is the best day you have had at work?

  1. I loved everything about this post! I love that technically you were ‘on the clock” as a blogger but got to have a great time with a great company like Mohawk flooring. I’m a big HGTV fan, so the fact that you got to meet and post with Chris Wade makes me smile. So glad that you had a fun day, my friend.

  2. Most recently, the best day I had at my 9-5 is when I came across a bulletin board that had a a series of preparation tips I had been sharing with staff. I volunteered to set up a email distribution list & send out blasts of pertinent information in anticipation of an upcoming inspection. It was a good feeling to notice that my hard work was valued. Meanwhile, back at the ranch, I want to take “field trips” like this for work. I’m working my plan to sustainably work from home in the near future. Then I’ll get to go to conferences & do other cool stuff like this. #beyourownboss 🙂

  3. That is such a hard question. if your talking about my blogging work it would have to be the days of my charity and Brunch events. It is fun to connect with other bloggers in real life. It’s also a great feeling to have work hard at something and have it turn out well. Now if your talking about the day job. I could not pinpoint a certain day. I like days when there is nothing stressful happening and if I get to help someone on my team.

What a nice event at the italian market. The carpet sounds like a good investment.

Also, I did not know you have a cat and dog too 🙂

  4. I need this in my life! Lol. It’s only me and my daughter but my carpet looks like I have 10 kids!

  5. I was glad to have an assignment to check out something I need in my house. My husband is really sensitive to chemicals so this easy to clean carpet with water would be great for us.

  6. I had no idea such a thing existed! That’s great to know – we avoid toxic cleansers in our house 100%. I would love to learn more about their carpets, so I’m going to have to check them out, because we really need new ones.

  7. Looks and sounds like an awesome service! My carpet has been in my home forever, and we’re in the process of removing all of it now. I sure could have used a service like this years prior! Thanks for sharing!

  8. That sounds like such a great event to attend.I’ve always hated carpet because I have it in my bedroom and on the stairs leading into the house and after years of wear, tearing and spills they look horrible. If we had money to replace them the new Mohawk line would be a great product to invest in. I’ll definitely keep them in mind for the future! Thanks so much for sharing and is it weird that I can smell that hot dog? My mouth is watering over here.
