Kerri Kochanski – 1001 People That Suck

Kerri Kochanski, Author of 1,001 People That Suck is fed up with bad humanity and unkind behavior, and is “calling people out.”

Championing kindness, tolerance, and understanding, the book “publicly shames” people who commit social crimes. As these crimes generally go unpunished, offenders fail to suffer a consequence, and thus, their bad behavior and unkindness continues. The book, however, delivers a consequence. It “officially” (and entertainingly) identifies 1,001 people who engage in bad humanity and unkind behavior, and labels them as “people that suck.” Pointing out humorous, serious, and questionable instances that are “really, just not right,” the book skewers offenders, and condemns them in the process.

“If you think people behaving badly is not an epidemic, it is.” There are over 2 million entries on Google and over 6 million videos on YouTube that reference “people suck.” People are disturbed by bad behavior. And by ignoring, downplaying or accepting unpleasantness, we are creating serious, larger issues. Bullies are causing children to commit suicide; road rage is causing drivers to kill other drivers by running them off the road – even stalking, assaulting and killing them. The bad guys are starting to win, and the good guys need to do something. We’ve reached a tipping point. “Enough is enough.”

  1. lol I think I could read this book I think it would be both educational and entertaining

  2. interesting read…makes me wonder if the author isnt commiting the same “crimes” by calling people out on them…

  3. How cathartic to be able to call people out for their bad behavior. I will definitely have to check this book out. Sound like a very entertaining read.

  4. I choose to distance myself from people who are unpleasant. I also choose to speak up if I see someone being unpleasant to others. We need to keep the rudeness to a minimum.

  5. I love the name of the book, but how sad it is that there are actually 1001 people the author can call out for sucking! Will be interested to read this, and see what she says!

  6. Maybe everyone will behave so as not to appear in any follow-up books she may write! Seriously, simple kindness…why must it be so hard?!

  7. I’m not quite sure what I think! I’d have to actually see an excerpt, which I am going to do because I’m looking the book up on B&N as soon as I leave this review. I need to know more! Thanks for bringing the book to my attention.

  8. It does sound like an interesting read. I’m not sure if I love the idea or not. But I’d like a chance to read and make up my own mind.

  9. What a great concept for a book! I love that someone finally has the guts to call people out on their bad behavior and let the world know it is not acceptable. Now I am curious to see who all is listed 🙂

  10. I love the concept of this book – I will definitely have to check out it. Thanks for sharing!:-)

  11. This is a book I would like to read and share with my kids. I want to raise children that are kind and thoughtful and sometimes messages coming from someone other than just mom are the best messages.

  12. Yeah, it’s pretty bad out there. And I do agree some of those reality shows are horrible. And our youth watches it. 🙁 At least I have a tight rein on what my kids watch.

  13. Can we start with all of the people on reality TV please!! I cannot believe the things people will do to get attention by behaving badly. Yikes!!!
