Freelancers and entrepreneurs who work at home tend to work all day every day and neglect home. For the most part, this is not intentionally done but happens because they get so caught up in getting work done that home gets lost in the sauce. It happens little by little either in an effort to grow a business or when the business has grown to such an extent that more attention is a necessity. During these busy times, freelancers and those who work at home may tend to put off chores at home.

For example, when work gets busy, a person who works at home may tend to let some of the following household chores slide

  • Mowing the lawn
  • Washing the dishes
  • Giving personal attention to a spouse
  • Cleaning the Laundry
  • Keeping the pantry fully stocked
  • Giving proper attention to children’s school work
  • Paying household bills in a timely manner

Work demands a great deal of time. It is quite easy to get myopic and concentrate solely on business while letting household responsibilities slide. This is a mistake. It is important to find a way to balance home and work responsibilities. A freelancer or entrepreneur who works in the home must remember why she is working in the first place. After all, most people work in order to have a better home life, a better quality of life. Most people do not work just for the sake of working. As a result, it is important to take care of home since home is where the heart is found.

It is important to work and to get work done in a satisfactory manner. At the same time, the freelancer or entrepreneur who works at home must take care of home. It is common knowledge that it is a good idea to have a written business plan for running a business. Similarly, it is a good idea to have a written plan for running a home. A written plan helps keep track of plans at home and what needs to be done. This plan can be a simple check list system or items placed on a calendar that can be seen and checked off each day. The time spent planning before problems arise is time well spent.

In conclusion, it is fantastic to know that home and work are independent entities. Home work should be done at home. So, the question for you this fantastic day is, are you getting your home work done at home or are you ignoring it and concentrating on work only?
