Today’s technology has almost unlimited memory and it is smart to find ways to use that memory to make your world better.
Once upon a time, a long time ago, I bought a Tandy computer from Radio Shack. It had 256k of memory. That is incredible to me. That computer was too heavy to carry and took up almost my whole desk. Today, my phone which fits in a shirt pocket has 32 gigs of memory. My computer has 500 gigabytes of memory. In addition, I have cloud storage with Google, Amazon, and Microsoft. I can store an unlimited amount of photos and have about 1 terabyte of storage on each of those cloud storage accounts. In other words, I feel like I could give out storage like Oprah Winfrey giving out cars.
You get some storage . . .
You get some storage . . .
You get some storage . . .
Why save one draft when you can save a dozen.
Now think about your business and all the things you do. Are you being generous with your storage or are you acting as if you are paying by the byte? For example, when you are writing proposals, blog articles, or ebooks do you save the document all the time with the same name? Why? Instead take advantage of all your storage. Each time you work on a writing project save it and include the date and time in the name of a file you are saving. For example, I am writing a book on elevator pitches. Here are the last three files I saved of the book:
051920 1030 pm will your elevator pitch take you to the top
051820 0230 pm will your elevator pitch take you to the top
051820 1120 am will your elevator pitch take you to the top
As this list of files show, I work on this book often and save the file sometimes more than once per day. In the past two days, I have saved three files. If I accidentally delete a file or a portion of a file, as I have done in the past, I have several recent fully saved versions I can go back to. This is an example of making good use of my storage.
A picture is worth 1,00 words so why not give it two or more file folders.
Another area where massive storage is important is with photographs. Most of us have digital cameras or phones with amazing cameras. This means it is easy for us to take dozens or hundreds of photos each day. Those photos take up lots of space. Sometimes we do not know when or if we will use all the photos we take. the almost limitless storage we have allows us to save those photos. We can categorize the photos and even save them in multiple directories to make them easier to find later.
Apps, apps, app, I can always use more apps.
For everything we do for work or play, there are dozens of apps and programs that we can use. Many of the apps are almost identical except for one small feature. When you have almost limitless storage, you don’t have to settle for any one app. Instead, you can have several versions of programs. This means you can use features from several programs in order to get what you want exactly. There is no need to settle. So don’t settle for one app or program, use five if that is what it takes to get things done.
Almost limitless storage is a wonder of modern technology. So take a moment to think of some ways you can use storage to make your business life better. So, the question for you this terrific day is, what how do you take advantage of all the storage at your disposal?
